Nutritional Counseling based on science and compassion...

to support health and create a positive relationship with food.

Janet has a non-judgmental, practical,

non-diet approach to nutritional counseling.

Janet's method is rooted in science, current research and compassion. Individual psychology, physiology, and learned habits (not will power) are primary determinants of food choices, eating behaviors and weight.

Janet supports you in exploring how your core feelings and beliefs unconsciously affect food choices. Together you and Janet develop an individualized program that honors this history you have with food, while also honoring your unique physiology and the habits and schedule you already have. This approach allows you to achieve the long term, sustainable results Janet is committed to for each client.

Janet McBride, RD, RDN, is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with additional certification in Childhood and Adolescent Weight Management, Weight and Eating Disorders and Integrative and Functional Nutrition.

Janet completed her post-graduate training and internship at Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston. She graduated magna cum laude from California Polytechnic State University with a B.S. focused in nutrition.

Janet has a San Francisco based private practice of 25 years, providing nutritional assessments and coaching. Janet specializes in eating disorders, body image, weight loss/maintenance, and addiction recovery. She also enjoys providing medical nutritional therapy to mitigate disease processes for individuals with specific health challenges such as diabetes and heart disease, as well as coaching to optimize health and longevity.

Janet is particularly fascinated by the relationship between brain chemistry and eating. She teaches college courses in eating behavior and nutrition science to culinary students and others. She also works as a consultant to the Alta Mira Recovery Programs in Sausalito, CA, providing nutrition assessments, disordered eating counseling and workshops.

Janet held public health positions in her early career, followed by creating and directing the Nutrition Center at the San Francisco Bay Club. Janet also worked at California Pacific Medical Center, Women's Health Resource Center where she collaborated in developing and co-leading their BodyLOVE program, a psycho-educational intensive program for women with eating and body image issues.

Janet loves helping people gain in both health and pleasure through food. As a foodie Janet feels grateful for the tremendous quality and variety in prepared cuisine and locally sourced ingredients we have available in San Francisco.
